Why Criterium Racing?

  • Exciting and Fast-Paced: Short, high-speed races around a closed loop – expect adrenaline, strategy, and lots of action!
  • Friendly for All Levels: Beginners, intermediates, and pros all race together – everyone’s welcome!
  • Great Community: Meet new people, make friends, and become part of a supportive cycling community.
  • Skill Boosting: Improve your bike handling, cornering, and race tactics with every lap.
  • Short & Sweet: Races are typically 30 minutes to an hour – quick enough to fit into your weekend but long enough to feel like a challenge!

How to Get Started:

  • Start Small: Look for entry-level races or “beginner” categories designed for new racers. This would be Categories 4-5. No need to dive straight into the deep end!
  • Find a Local Series: Many communities offer criterium series where you can race multiple times a season, giving you a chance to improve and gain experience.
  • Get the Gear: A road bike, helmet, and gloves are a must. For evening crit racers clear or color adjusting lenses are a must. Don’t worry about fancy gear – comfort and safety are key!
  • Join a Team or Group Ride: Joining a local cycling club or team can help you get faster and connect with other racers who can offer tips and support.
  • Google bicycle clinics near you!
  • DM pros for tips and tricks!

Tips for Your First Criterium:

  • Practice Cornering: Criteriums often involve tight corners – practice your cornering skills to feel more confident on race day.
  • Pace Yourself: It’s easy to get carried away in the excitement, but remember, it’s not a sprint. Find your rhythm and keep your energy for the final push.
  • Stay Relaxed: Don’t worry about winning the first time. Focus on having fun, learning, and improving each lap.
  • Know the Course: Arrive early to check out the racecourse so you can visualize your strategy and feel prepared.
  • Invite your squad: There is nothing better than rounding a turn to cheers of your name from family and friends!
